As a child, you might have heard the phrase, “eat bugs and die!”
If you receive value from this and other content I create, feel free to compensate value for value by helping me achieve my big dream of holding a weekly, Keener family, grain free, Taco Tuesday. My kids are extremely grateful for your contribution. Grain free tortillas are not cheap.
It wasn’t said with any kindness. Good, old, honest children thought one of the lowest things you could wish upon other people was that they fill their mouths with the creepiest crawly insects before their untimely demise. Who was it that pointed out in the story that the emperor wasn’t wearing any clothes? Kids. Sometimes, they just get it right.
Here we are again. It seems a lot of self-deprecating individuals, one such being actor, Nicole Kidman have embraced what children have seen as a misfortune as her “secret talent.” Ick!
Warning: the video below depicts the actor going to town on insects. It’s disgusting. Viewer discretion is advised.
It’s hard to watch her eating wiggling, live bugs. This video certainly has not made her decision more appetizing or sexy, nor does it pique the curiosity of the viewer to join in on her misguided “food” choices.
I also don’t want to kiss her. Do you?
It doesn’t surprise me that groups advocating for sustainability, the eugenicists and anti-populists would advocate bug eating as the way forward. They hate humanity. Any child could tell you this. When Nicole quotes the number of millions of humans who eat bugs, she fails to mention that they aren’t choosing to eat bugs over other meats. Most of these people started eating bugs because they would otherwise be malnourished.
I have to say, in her case, it’s particularly gruesome, the kind of glee she gets from eating bugs that are still alive. It’s straight out of a Grimm Fairytale. What earthly benefit does this practice have? That slight amount of freshness, sorry, gross, can’t be worth the ick factor. Seems rather ghastly and wicked, leaving me to wonder, what won’t she eat? Moreover, what wouldn’t she do or participate in? Is anything at all disturbing to her? It feels like, maybe, no.
As a non vegetarian, I suppose I am treading on morally questionable thin ice. That’s another conversation for another day.
I do realize the “ick factor” is somewhat socially and culturally driven.
However, for the most part, people who as a culture eat bugs would gladly and preferably eat other animals. Nicole Kidman, however, wasn’t raised in any of these survival driven cultures. So, I guess, I just don’t believe this woman has an ick factor anymore. As an actor, it’s possible she has been conditioned to look past the ick factor in her work over decades and view it as “just acting.” It’s no wonder so many in the fields of modern “entertainment” ended up on the Epstein flight logs. Through acting, she may have been systematically conditioned to overcome her ick factor. That can be said, too, of many of us. The culture of depravity we find ourselves in, as I can surmise, is driven largely by media and television programming. We watch something awful on TV that we feel squeamish about, and then, tell ourselves, it’s ok because it’s fake. It’s just acting.
As for myself, as a person with large dreams and aspirations for a life of love, self-esteem, beauty and personal joy, I have cut back on a lot of television and film when it seems to trigger my personal ick response. I don’t feel the desire to disturb myself or condition myself with constant exposure to gross, abhorrent or wrong things which can gradually become normalized in my psyche. So, too, I am becoming more cautious about what television viewing my children are exposed to. As a mother, it’s my responsibility to limit their exposure to dangerous and unhealthy things.
Things are going downhill pretty quickly in our society. It’s not looking good. My first recommendation is to stop looking. Not to deny, but to limit exposure. I don’t have to deny any carcinogens exist or deny they cause harm to limit my personal exposure to their effects in my own life. Another horrible news story comes out every week. I don’t feel the need to watch the play-by-play and get into the personal suffering of it all. I choose not to victimize myself. There’s enough victims in the world without me doing it to myself after the fact and with ample opportunity to opt out. So, I just don’t watch. Maybe, there’s a lesson in that for others.
Viewer discretion strongly advised.
