"Liberals" In The Time of Cholera

or so I imagine.

Reporter: “After two years of countless liberty infringing, health challenging, economy wrecking, dollar devaluing, suicide skyrocketing, child development inhibiting and emotionally debasing mandates, policies, economic responses and lockdowns around the world in response to Covid, seeing all the detriments and none of the benefits come to pass, where now do you self-proclaimed but non-apparent ‘Liberals’ stand in hindsight on your behavior and attitudes over the past two years?”

Official “Liberal” Representative: “Essentially, we did the absolute best anyone could do with the information we had considering it was an unprecedented time with a novel virus.”

Reporter: “Ok, but since it all failed, was ineffective and destroyed lives, couldn’t you say that the people you opposed vehemently for the past two years who never stopped going to the gym, who refused masks, who wouldn’t vaccinate, who attained what is now considered to be superior and life long, natural immunity, who went out in the sun and got vitamin D, who kept the gears turning for the economy by refusing to shut down and who stood up for liberty and the health freedom to assess their own risks in light of the evidence were the ones doing the best anyone could do for themselves, for society, for the children, for the economy, for the food supply, for morale and for general, overall health?”

Official “Liberal” Representative: “God, no! What evidence? Those monsters who happened to do what we now know turned out to be the right thing to do by not masking, shutting down or getting this amazing, life saving vaccine or whatever, they should still regret it. Why aren’t you asking them? They didn’t know better than we did. Remember, we knew it was a novel virus and the times were unprecedented, still are. They risked everyone else’s health and safety for their own individual liberty which is always the wrong reason. Just ask them. They’ll even admit that’s why they did it. They didn't have the information we do now. They just as easily *could have been* wrong which would have killed them and us if they had been wrong. That technically makes them a reckless liability to the rest of society, of humanity, really. I see them as a risk for perpetuity for not following the official statements by the health authorities of these unprecedented times.”

Reporter: “Many of those health freedom advocates studied the historical failure of lockdowns and read all available research from 20 years of study on the efficacy of masks for respiratory viruses- or rather lack thereof, and based their decisions on that. Don’t you think it’s harsh to say the people who did all along what even Dr. Fauci recommends now, to make their own risk assessment and decisions on their own health on a person by person basis, don’t you think it’s harsh to call them a reckless liability to humanity?”

Official “Liberal” Representative: “All the science done before 2020 was only indicative of how masks performed with every other respiratory virus. This was a novel virus. It was unprecedented! What are you not understanding about this? They didn’t know that masks wouldn’t do the same as they always have with a brand new, never seen before virus! They were so reckless! What they did by intention was tantamount to murder- no, genocide!”

Reporter: “But this virus wasn’t that different to every other virus in the ways in which public health authorities addressed it with detrimental, devastating and deadly policies and recommendations. It wasn’t more virulent. It really wasn’t that much more contagious. We tested more, so the optics of it seemed overwhelming. In fact, in many ways, such as for children it was probably the only virus in history that left healthy infants and children entirely immune. We pretty much assessed how safe it was for children and the lack of threat of children as a vector for contagion almost immediately. Yet, many of you insisted on masking children and in some places, you still want children masked. What say you to that?”

Official “Liberal” Representative: “As far as the children thing goes, that just proves how novel it really was. And sure we want children masked. Everyone knows children spread diseases. They’ve always been super spreaders of diseases. Ask any kindergarten teacher. They know. Certainly, we should continue to mask children because there are new variants all the time, and we never know how the next one will perform.”

Reporter: “So you are basing your conclusions about children and Covid on the saying ‘what’s past is precedent’ and on the advice of kindergarten teachers? But, when health freedom advocates based their decision on prior research of other viruses, ample leading health authorities in fields of evidenced based research, virology, immunology, cardiology, emergency medicine and medical ethics who countered the official narratives, they turned out to be right in every area in which what was past turns out to have indeed been the precedent. Still, you suggest they were reckless to humanity and by intention genocidal? Literally the only thing novel about the virus was how it affected children and yet, that’s another place public health officials around the world got it wrong.”

Official “Liberal” Representative: “I’m not ‘suggesting’ they were genocidal. I know they were. These health freedom advocates and their discredited handful of so-called medical ‘experts’ could not have known which precedents were going to play out in accordance with past research. Assuming the ones they guessed were correct makes them reckless and deadly. It also makes all of those debunked ‘experts’ dangerous for just assuming masks wouldn’t be effective against the novel Corona Virus. As health experts, people look up to them. They have an extra responsibility to be cautious and to try to use anything, even something once considered ill effective or potentially harmful to protect the public health. They have to learn to weigh out the risks and overlook the possible, yet unknown dangers of lockdowns or wearing heavily fondled masks all day long, day after day. When an unprecedented, novel virus of unknown proportions comes along, they needed to put that risk first. Not doing so, should cost them their reputations and livelihoods. They should be held accountable for the danger they might have caused by ignorantly telling people who might get it in their heads to think for themselves that lockdowns might cause harm. Thank goodness those quacks exposed themselves. The consensus was against them the whole time, and the virus was deadly. Millions died! Don’t you care that millions died while these people stood around looking at out dated studies that didn’t necessarily apply to a novel virus and potentially put us all at risk?”

Reporter: “The people you refer to as ‘debunked’ turned out to be correct. And many died because of lockdowns and suicide. Many in third world countries suffered from starvation as a result of lockdowns. It is estimated that as many as 94% of the people who were alleged to die from Covid died from comorbidities such as terminal cancer, heart or lung diseases, morbid obesity and frailty of advanced age, not to mention those who died from bad nursing home policies and poor hospital treatment protocols. Don’t you care about that?”

Official “Liberal” Representative: “Of course, I care. The comorbidities were aggravated by Covid, though. Those people could have died from their comorbidities, being on chemotherapy and radiation. Instead, they had to die an excruciating death on a ventilator with Covid. You can’t just look at the death. It was also the suffering it caused. And as far as the deaths from lockdowns and suicides, we can’t say they wouldn’t have died anyway. There’s no way of knowing. You can look at graphs and charts to show that in the past less people died of suicide or starvation or children’s developmental outcomes were better but the past doesn’t count. These have been unprecedented times. Whatever the death count may be even into the future as the assumed result of the public health recommendations and policies, it can’t overshadow the threat of Covid and the importance of reducing case numbers, hospitalization, suffering and death from Covid. We sometimes have to overlook health, development and financial factors or potential dollar devaluation when dealing with an unprecedented, extinction level risk to humanity.”

Reporter: “The threat of extinction never materialized, and if we are talking about debunking anyone, the Imperial College model was found to have been ridiculously, outrageously flawed in its computer based projections of the scope and magnitude of the virus. It was shattered even in other countries prior to the very first day of the “2 weeks to flatten the curve” recommendation. Given all that you know now, how likely are you in the future to do what public health officials and government agents tell you without question or without looking at all the past data on any given mandate or health recommendation?”

Official “Liberal” Representative: “I trust our health agencies implicitly. They did a good job. There’s a reason we don’t have to wear masks now. Everything they said lead us to where we are now. We had to try to do everything we could. Our public health officials stood up for humanity. They put aside a lot of nonsense about money and freedom to focus on health and safety. It’s because of their efforts that you can now, responsibly assess your own risk and decide what health measures are right for you on a case by case basis.”

Reporter: “One last question, what makes the choice that health freedom advocates have been practicing for two years a “responsible” personal choice for you now?”

Official “Liberal” Representative: “Timing. Timing is everything. Now, we know we have to learn to live with Covid. Dr. Fauci said it was on each of us to live with Covid and make our own decisions. Now, that we know what the exact risks are with past Covid variants based on two years of data, we can responsibly make those decisions that once upon a time might have effected others. Now, we know it’s ok to choose for ourselves. Now, it’s responsible to be personally responsible. Before it was dangerous to guess about being personally responsible. Still, another variant may come that does something different, so we need to be prepared to lock down again at any time and go back to masks and hopefully newer boosters to protect public health until we have all the data to make a decision that even considers some possible collateral of unintended consequences of these policies going forward. Just because these policies supposedly destroyed people’s jobs and businesses, increased suicides or whatever, allegedly affected childhood development, and probably got taken advantage of by greedy capitalists who used them to create a transfer of wealth, doesn’t mean that would happen again. It’s always important to make safety our first priority.”

Reporter: “Thank you for your time. Is there anything else you’d like to add?”

Official “Liberal” Representative: “I think we need all those reckless people and their debunked ‘experts’ found, so we can put them behind bars for life or remove them from our society. Lock them in their homes where they can only endanger themselves if they don’t want to go along with the rest of society. They didn’t directly endanger us this time, but they could have if they were wrong. The scariest thing is that I think they’d respond the same way again if this had been an extinction level health threat. They only care about thinking for themselves, looking at outdated research and preserving their own, individual liberty. Their willingness to overlook any potential dangers and ignore experts in the field says everything that matters about their risk to humanity at large going forward. We as a society are now moving ahead with personal responsibility. It’s a personal responsibility to follow the guidance of our elected officials. That’s why they have the job of telling everyone what to do, because they care about us and represent our most urgent needs. I don’t see how these health freedom nut jobs can come with us into the future being so blindly reckless and irresponsible for their own health, let alone the health and safety of others.”
